D&B! Friends! Pool Shark! Sweat! ill-Prepared! Fun!

How was your weekend?

Nice…oh, fun!…Wow…cool, cool….

Mine? Oh, thanks for asking! Well…

Friday I had to work both my part time day gig and then house managing at iO. So nothing too exciting. Saturday was a little more exciting. Well, the evening was because I spent most of the day doing laundry.

Saturday night I ended up showing up Dave & Busters for friend Mikaela’s b-day thingie. Man, that place has changed! It was full of people dressed up for a night on the town….at Dave & Busters. The busy area smelled like ass and there were lots of people wearing outfits they should not be wearing and in some cases outfits that seemed to be crying out: “Ouch! Why are you wearing meeeee!”

And most of the games were now replaced by little party rooms where I guess you can rent space for parties, meetings, etc.

The Dave & Busters I remember was full of games including the coolest ones: BattleTech. Remember those?? D&B used to have a room full of pods where you’d get in, close the door and then you were surrounded by screens and instrument panels. You were now in charge of this giant robot and your mission was to kill the rest of the robots in the playing field. So. Much. Fun.

Me and my friends from my old job used to go to D&B a lot. It was never planned, but it always happened.

We would start by having an innocent lunch at Hooters (Yes, innocent), which then almost always turned into a drinking fest to the point of being cutoff at Hooters (only because for a while there was a limit of how many pitchers of beers a table could get), followed by more drinking at D&B’s and BattleTech. So yeah, we’d go to lunch and then not go back to work. This happened at least 3 times a month. Ah, those were fun times at the ol’ job.

I loved that job not only because of the trust and flexibility we had, but because of the friends I got make there. Friends I dearly love but sadly don’t get to see as often as I’d like. So shout out to my Hooters/D&B buddies Steve, Matt, Sam, Sean, and Bubba. Yay-Yaaaaay!

Anyway, despite the ‘new’ D&B vibe, I had a lot of fun hanging out for Mikaela’s outing because we were in a different –quieter- part of the place playing pool and shuffleboard. Man, that game is fun but a lot of times you just wanna slap shuffleboard in the face. In the face!

And I got to see James and Tony whom I don’t see often but enjoy hanging with. So yay!

I ended up at Holiday that night then later ended up where one never wants to end up but somehow always does: Nicks Uptown.

The only reason I often end up there is because Sonny, my friend and bartender at Holiday, wants to party a little too after his shift, so we end up there.

The only exciting thing this night is I almost got into it with a dude who kept talking trash while I was playing pool with Sonny. He then wanted to challenge me and after a couple of good shots against me, got a little more brave with his trash talk. He then missed. So, I proceeded to whup his ass on the table and after every shot I made I shot a crude remark toward him. After I ran the table on him he humbly apologized and all was good. One point for drunk-pool-shark-Cesar!

Sunday I had to be up early for a fun rehearsal with some lovely and talented ladies. But then I had to work again that night at iO where I found out the A/C was out. Ugh. This seems to happen a lot at the theater so I don’t know how it wouldn’t be fixed by now. Anyway, yeah, this made for a muggy evening for the audience and players, but we got through it.

Monday I had 3 auditions lined up and no headshots to provide. Not a good thing. But, I ordered new ones that I hope to have by tomorrow for more auditions later this week. I think I tanked the first audition but did Ok in the other two, so it wasn’t so bad. The evening was capped by a fun show at iO and some fun hanging out afterwards.

I thought about my niece this weekend but didn’t call because I’m stupid and I forgot. I’m dumb.

Looks like I’ll be doing a couple of video projects soon which I’m excited about. One’s an independent film and another will be a short film that will feature my puppet, Jesse, from Felt. I can’t for these to happen! So big shout out to Emily and Danielle! Yay-Yaaaaay!

It’s poker night. Wish me luck. But make sure it’s good luck because if you have anything but good luck to wish then please grab an empty jar of jelly, fart in it, then stick if on your face and breathe.

Movie machine! Pixar! Tissue Please! Felt! Lotto Time!

I’m a movie machine! I went to see yet another movie by myself. I’m getting used to it!

It makes me feel better if I go to the early shows because going by myself at night would really feel creepy.

I went to see Pixar’s new flick, “Up”. I thought because I went to a 2:50 showing that the theater would be pretty empty, but there was actually some people there. Mostly couples and a lady with two kids, so this time I did feel a little weird being the only dude by himself watching a PG film. Ugh.

But I shook that off sat down and got ready for some Pixar fun. And fun it was. (don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything) I was warned ahead of time to bring tissues because I guess some people cried watching it. I’m not afraid to tear up at a good flick so I was kinda looking forward to being challenged to do so by a Pixar film. It didn’t happen, but I can see how some people might have gotten the ol’ wet-eyes. Especially if they can relate to the things that happen in the movie. So if people did get a little emotional watching it, it’s because Pixar did a great job at allowing us to feel for the characters a little more than we’ve had in the past. Man, I love Pixar. So yeah, go watch it.

I was telling a friend last night that I’ve only cried at the movies twice; once when I went to see E.T. by myself as a kid, and once when I went to see “Dead Man Walking”. I wasn’t sobbing, but “Dead Man Walking” definitely produced some tears. That Sean Penn is gooood.

I remember hearing most of the theater sobbing and sniffing, then went it ended, there was this weird silence as people were gathering their things, then the girl I was dating at the time says: “That was stupid”. I almost lost it. We had a dumb argument about why she didn’t agree with why we (the audience) should have gotten emotional about the film. Ruined the moment.

But yeah, I like being pulled in to the point your feelings are really affected by a story or character(s).

To this day the one that still gets me is the end of ‘Field of Dreams”. Every time. To the point I sometimes try to avoid it if I catch it while flipping channels if I have to run out soon.

It reminds me of my Dad. See, I didn’t play baseball as a kid, but I remember as I got older enjoying putting on a glove and tossing the ball with friends. I didn’t get to do that often, but I remember liking it. Then when I started to become a baseball fan, I remember missing that more and more.

A few years ago my little brother got involved in baseball. Man, he was good. It sucks that he didn’t stick with it because the streets became more important. Anyway, at one of his games, my Dad invited me to toss the ball with him. I put on a glove and we tossed the ball for a while. I remember realizing at that moment that I’ve never done that with my Dad before. And it felt really good.

That was the one and only time that I tossed the ball with my Dad. Actually, I haven’t done that anybody since. I don’t think I thought about it much until a couple of years later when I found myself watching the end of “Field of Dreams”. I lost it. I mean lost it.

Ever since, watching or even thinking about that scene at the end of the movie really gets me. (heck, I think I’m tearing up now) Even though it makes me a little sad because, well, I’m human, in a weird way, I enjoy watching it because it makes me think about Him, and that’s always fun.

I had a blast at last night’s ‘Felt’ show. We were super short-handed and the lovely Molly Hall agreed to sit-in with us this night as well. So in front of a packed house, Molly, Kristen, Jon and myself decided to go 40-45 minutes and just try to have fun. And fun we had. I think it was one of our best ones. But make no mistake, that’s not a knock on the rest of the cast. I’m pretty sure we would have had just as much fun, if not more, if any one of the rest of the cast would have been there. That’s how talented and funny they are, and that’s what makes playing in this show so much fun.

I capped the night with a little kareokee fun at the Holiday Club with friends John Langen, Katie Nunn, and Timmy Mayse.

Fun times.

Oh, snap! It’s back! “Lotto Compliment”

This is the part of my blog where I pick an entry in my phone or email list by using the most recent Lottery numbers and say something nice about them.

So let’s see, the most recent numbers were: 14-19-22-41-49-50

I’ll go with phone and go the letter of the alphabet that corresponds to number 14, and that’s….N. Ok, I will now count down 19 entries……and find “Pak Lui” (I don’t have many N or O entries I guess)

Pak doesn’t read this, but that doesn’t matter:

Pak was a co-worker of mine at my old job. We worked together for roughly 7 or 8 years before he left to make more money elsewhere. I don’t think I ever had a bad experience with Pak. Whenever I needed help with a work related issue he was always there to help me out. Although he didn’t drink, Pak was one of the guys and he was always around for Party Time. Pak now has a family of his own and I couldn’t be happier for him. I only get to see him maybe once a year during our annual Toys for Tots party, but when I do see him, it always brings back fun memories.

Pak, thank you for being my friend.
