Roof! Conan! Pitt! Drunk! Leprechauns!

Hope you had a fun weekend! Overall mine was a good one.

I had a show on Friday, worked at the theater on Saturday, and I got to go to a rooftop to watch the Cubs game on Sunday night.

Those idiot Cubs lost, but I had a really good time hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a long time.

Too bad they all had to get back on a bus and head home so early. But still, very fun night with people I’ve always enjoyed hanging out with.

Monday I watched ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ then had a fun show later that night at iO, followed by a viewing of Conan O’Brien’s debut on Late Night. This community has so many ties to that show that it was great to see Conan get the show and for our friends to continue getting gigs with that show.

Watching the show reminded me of friends that have made the move and are enjoying themselves, which in turn made me think of how much I’d like to move to L.A. myself.

I love Chicago but I really want to give L.A. shot if only to say I tried it. I almost made the move a couple of years ago, but I borrowed (or is it “lent”…?) a good friend of mine the kind of money that it would have taken for me to make the move…then he wasn’t able to properly pay me back.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, “don’t lend friends money”, but not only did I consider him a great childhood friend, but he also helped me out a lot over the years, so when it was my chance to help him out, I didn’t hesitate. I kinda regret it and I kinda don’t, because I don’t mind one bit helping a friend in need.

After that, the doo-do hit the fan as far as finance goes, so I haven’t had the chance to get the kind of cash to make the move out to La-La-Land. Maybe one day I’ll land the right gig that will pay the right amount of money and hopefully I can still make the trek out there. *Sigh*

I enjoyed that ‘Benjamin’ movie. It was a bit long, but I still enjoyed it. I’ve always been intrigued by the story and special effects, but I’m also not ashamed to say I admire Brad Pitt as an actor.

Some people may see it as a love story, but I think I side with the director in that I saw it as a “death” movie that tries to look into how aging backwards may affect how one learns about life and about one’s mortality.

The only part I was not clear on was a segment where he goes on to have a relationship with someone and of course falls in love. They have a set routine where they meet every night at the same spot and this goes on for a while, then one night without notice or warning: Poof! –She gone. And that’s pretty much it. We don’t see him go thru the pain and confusion, but rather he just keeps on truckin’ and going about his life.

We don’t see her again til way later in the movie and she seems to be doing good, and he seems happy about that.

Wasn’t sure if there was a message there of if they were just trying to tie a loose end there. Either way, I enjoyed it. Not a big action flick that moves along, but enjoyable nevertheless.

I also saw “Paul Blart, Mall Cop”. Yeah…..don’t rent this. But buy it for Jason Chin because he liked it.

Speaking of Mr. Chin, check out his latest blog that he was hired to write! http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/improvised-blog/

This is how drunk Rafi was Sunday at the rooftop outing:

I walked up to him, Alex and Barb (his sister) having a conversation. We talked for a bit then Barb stepped away for a bit.

Rafi: Hey….my sister’s here.

Me: Yeah…we were all just talking.

Rafi: Yup…

10 minutes later Rafi and I are talking and are joined by Barb. We chat for a bit then Rafi leaves to get some food. Barb steps away for a bit and Rafi walks up to me with a lot of hot dog in his mouth.

Rafi: Hey….my sister’s here, bro.

Me: Yeah! You already told me and we were just talking to her!

Rafi: Uh-uh!

Me: This is the second time you told me she was here and both times you saw me talking to her.

Rafi: Naaaaah…you’re lying. (mustard on his lips the whole time)

Me: Ok, Ralph.

5 minutes of him eating and me watching game.

Me: Hey, did your sister come?

Rafi: Yeah!! I forgot to tell you!

Me: Oh, cool. I’m gonna go look for her.

Rafi: Get me a cheeseburger.
